Review:
Now Orbiters main attraction to us is its share realism. Reaching orbit for the first time with the Space Shuttle is awesome. Many a spouse has been
bewildered by our computer room celebration dances. Intercepting a station and docking brings us equal thrills and cheers. But the tension maneuvering
these "real life" vessels through space is high. Once in a while I need a stress reliever. A jump into a ship without the restrictions of holman transfers would be welcomed. With no schedules for departure or fuel consumption worries. A fantasy ship that lets us tour the beauty of the solar system with out doing all
the math.
This is just what you get with USS Voyager add-on. A high speed Star Trek ship that can go anywhere in the
solar system and leave at any time. At such high speeds you can do straight point to point flying. Choose any
planet or moon and head straight there. Upon arrival you can easily maneuver this ship into orbit around the target
body. Only two MFDs are needed, the orbit MFD and the Attitude MFD (to point the way). As you can tell I love this add-on and recommend it highly. Pablo Edronkin did an excellent job on this fine ship.
Tips and Tricks!
Getting this ship up to fantastic speeds is easy. Bringing the ship back to approach speeds requires you to turn
around and fire the main thrusters. The retro thrusters are too weak to slow the ship down but are reserved for fine maneuvers. I find that turning around is
annoying for such a futuristic ship. Plus I would like to watch my approach to a planetary body from within the ship while viewing the MFDs. The external view is odd looking since you are backing your way in.
My solution was to edit the USSVoyager.cfg file. Change MaxRetroThrust = 6e6 To a much stronger MaxRetroThrust = 3e9
Notice MaxMainThrust is 5.7e9. I didn't want to match the retro with the main engines because they are too
strong to enter orbit with. At MaxRetroThrust = 3e9 you can still do the small burns with the retro engines, but
when on full they are strong enough to slow the ship down. The retros are now a bit more than 50% of the mains
and are worthy of such a ship. Now there's nothing like coming up on a planet head on after being in space for a while.
