Red Mars pt1

Filename: 2251pt1redmars_v2.zip
Author: Rich Wall (Hot Dog)
Type: Scenery
Size: 8794kb

File Description:
Its been quite some time since I began my adventures with Orbiter. However I can remember it was many months before I got out beyond Earth and moon. Now a long time solar system explorer I find myself at distant planets with no place to recharge self and ship. Placed in orbit with no station to dock to or base to land at. Sure I could land just any old place but I still be contained within the protection of my ship.

I wanted to begin editing scenarios and start placing base at these locales. No need to break out Notepad with 2251pt1RedMars_v2 available to download. It gives me what I longed for, planet and moon bases, 18 of them, from Mercury to Charon. The first in a series of planetary upgrades, Pt1 (2251pt1RedMars_v2 ) installs all these bases along with setting up an environment for Red and Blue Mars. New scenarios are added to Orbiter's scenario folder so you can take immediate advantage of them all.

The scenarios take place in the future. For Red mars the scenarios set up the bases for the year 2101. The bases themselves are nicely crafted, many of which are domed cities. Both day and night flights are beautiful sights around these well lighted gems. There are pads available for the typical hovercraft style ships ( Delta Glider, Shuttle A ) There are also runway strips near many of the domed cities. One scenario places you on a runway for take off at one of Jupiters moons with Jupiter coming up over the horizon and also the same for Saturn. Cool stuff.

This add-on does not overwrite any of Orbiters planetary textures. It only adds the 18 base and sets up the environment for planetary texture upgrades offered in the rest of the series. This add-on is a fully functional stand alone while pt2 Blue Mars needs this one to operate.

Tip!
There is a patch to this add-on. Download 2251Patch01Duncan-Jarmo Effect Correction Patch which contains updated Planetary and Base Config files and several new Scenario files for the 2101 and 2251 environments. Also increase the navigational accuracy of Orbiter by 200 to 10,000 times.

Below is a chart of the full series which as you can see upgrades planetary textures to level seven. If you have the computer power Rich Wall (Hot Dog) also has highly detailed planetary textures ( level 8 ) for many of the planets and thier moons.

The 2251Res8.402 Blue Mars planetary texture is spectacular.

Robert Stettner did the 3d terrain meshes on the original Jupiter base that really got this project
off the ground.

Meshes that jtiberius and rodion made were also used and helped the quality of the package.

Rolf's work was instrumental.

Seth Hollingsead with his help and textures.
